I'd been looking for a converter to step down my 24 VAC to a 12 VDC signal for a small automation controls project I wanted to do. I'd looked on Amazon, Kele, and a few other places, but just couldn't find something that would fit the limited space that I had. Then I came across this tiny converter... Wow.
So installation was extremely easy. It's a phoenix plug, so it's easy to unplug and wire up. This made installation so much easier than some of the other, more bulky, items I've worked with in the past. I was able to double-sided tape the converter into the enclosure, then set up the wiring on the plug and plug it in. The whole process was quick and extremely easy. And, best of all, it did exactly what I needed it to.
In my case, I'm using this to convert my 24 VAC (registering ~ 27.5 VAC) down to 12 VDC to power a Netgear GS308 8-Port Switch. With everything installed into a tight enclosure, eliminating the need for a power cord (and a bunch of excess wire) was so helpful. I'm looking at ordering a few more of these to reproduce the same system for others. Great product!
I needed to power a 12VDC network switch in my attic, but only had 24VAC available from a thermostat power supply. This turned out to be the exact device that I needed. I was thinking I would need to rig up a rectifier and then find a buck converter to step down to 12VDC, but this device does it all in one package. The removable screw terminal connection is great - I love this molex/phoenix style of connector, as I never seem to have wires come loose over time.
I measured the output and it was 12.2VDC when unloaded. At about a 12W load (approximately 1A), it was down to 11.8VDC. That amount of droop is acceptable for my application. Overall, I highly recommend this converter.
Small, but powerful. I needed 12 VDC for a temperature-monitoring device installed at an air handler. This device powers it nicely from the 24-28 VAC transformer that powers the thermostat.
The connector is a removable plug, so you can wire the connector up before attaching it to the device. You will probably want to do it that way.
If you mount the device so that the legend is readable, the screws on the connector will be inaccessible unless you remove the plug from the device.
I am using the device to convert 24VAC used for temperature control to operate a 12VDC solenoid. Works perfect and does not even get warm with the low current.
Works great!!!!
